Perry was born to actors Laurie Metcalf, and Jeff Perry. One of her first TV appearances were Jackie Harris on ABC's sitcom Roseanne. Her mother played her role. She began acting at Northwestern University to gain friends after she was transferred from Boston University. Perry played a lead role in nine episodes in 2016 of the ABC drama The Family. Her father played her character in The ABC show Scandal. The actress also portrayed the older Mary Cooper in Young Sheldon - an CBS spin-off of The Big Bang Theory. Despite having a family connection to the character she received the role through an audition.
